Privacy Policy
Online services provided by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE), hereafter referred to as “the ASE website,” are governed by this Privacy Policy in conjunction with the ASE Terms of Use. These combined documents outline usage guidelines for the ASE website. If you do not agree with any of the conditions outlined in these documents, refrain from accessing any of the services or information on this website.
ASE is committed to providing users of the ASE Website with a safe and secure environment in which to view, transmit and receive electronic information. ASE uses reasonable efforts to ensure the information you provide remains private, and will attempt to ensure that the information is used only for the purposes stated below.
Because ASE gathers certain types of information about users, you should fully understand the terms and conditions surrounding the capture and use of that information. This Privacy Policy discloses what information ASE collects and how it’s used.
Access Modes
The ASE website facilitates two primary modes of access by users: 1) anonymous
users, and, 2) myASE portal users.
1. Anonymous users may access general ASE website content that is publicly
available and does not require the provision of personal information to access that content. This content also does
not require a user name or password for authentication. Such content includes, but is not limited to, general website
information about ASE, its programs and other content general in nature.
2. myASE portal users may access
user-specific details about their testing history and business transactions with ASE. Access to this type of content
requires the establishment of a myASE account and the registration of a user name and password.
Information Collection and Tracking
ASE collects two types of information about users:
1.
Information provided through optional, voluntary submissions. These are voluntary submissions to receive announcements
about future tests, electronic newsletters, and information gathered in polls and surveys.
2. Information or
aggregated tracking information derived mainly by tallying page views throughout the site. This information allows ASE
to better tailor site content to user needs and to better understand user demographics. ASE will, at its discretion,
use your information to communicate with you, or to facilitate communications by others with you, about education,
training, and award programs judged to be of potential benefit, as well as future tests and offers.
Surveys
ASE may occasionally conduct surveys to better target content or to gain insight
about user preferences. ASE may use this information to better refine its products and services and may also use
certain survey information for special awards and drawings.
Usage Tracking
ASE tracks user
traffic patterns. ASE breaks down overall usage statistics according to a user’s domain name, browser type and
version. The traffic patterns of myASE portal users may be used by ASE to enhance the service of the myASE
portal.
ASE sometimes tracks and catalogs search terms that users enter in our Search function, but this
tracking is never associated with individual users. We use tracking information to determine which site areas are most
frequented based on traffic to those areas. We do not track what individual users read, but rather how well each page
performs overall. This helps ASE continue to improve its website over time.
Cookies
For
some functions, features and content, ASE may store a text file called a “cookie” in the browser of your computer. For
some types of content that run in Adobe Flash Player, Flash content may store a “Flash cookie” within the Flash player
itself. While you do not need to have your browser cookies enabled to use this site, you may need to have cookies
enabled for certain content. A cookie does not contain personal information, but will be used to remember your choices
of certain options when using some types of content. ASE will NEVER store essential information in cookies, like your
credit card number, due to security concerns. For additional information about measures ASE takes to protect the
security of your personal information including credit cards, see Security below.
Use of
Information
ASE uses any information voluntarily given by our users to enhance their experience in our
network of sites, whether to provide interactive or personalized elements on the sites or to better prepare future
content based on the interests of our users. As stated above, we use information that users voluntarily provide in
order to send out electronic reminders and to enable users to participate in polls and surveys. We send out reminders
to subscribers on a regular schedule and occasionally send out special editions when we think subscribers might be
particularly interested in something we are doing. ASE will, at its discretion, use your records to communicate with
you, or to facilitate communications by others with you, about education, training, and award programs judged to be of
potential benefit, as well as future tests and offers. ASE reserves the right to confirm whether you do or do not hold
ASE certification and in which areas.
We use tracking information to determine which areas of our sites users
like and don’t like based on traffic to those areas. We do not track what individual users read, but rather how well
each page performs overall. This helps us continue to build a better service for you. We track search terms entered in
Search function as one of many measures of what interests our users but do not track which terms a particular user
enters.
ASE creates aggregate reports on user demographics and traffic patterns for internal use. This allows
our users to receive notifications that are pertinent to their needs.
Sharing of
Information
ASE uses the above-described information to tailor our content to suit your needs and help
us better understand our audience’s demographics. This is essential to providing websites of maximum value. ASE will,
at its discretion, use your records to communicate with you about future tests and offers, or to facilitate
communications by others with you, about education, training, and award programs judged to be of potential
benefit.
Security
ASE operates secure data networks protected by industry standard firewall
and password protection systems. Our security and privacy policies are periodically reviewed and enhanced as necessary
and only authorized individuals within ASE and its contractors have access to the information provided by our
customers. We work to protect the security of your information during transmission by using 128-bit Secure Sockets
Layer (SSL) software, which encrypts information you input.
Opt-In Policy
We give users
opt-in choices to receive information from ASE via e-mail. ASE’s opt-in policy helps ensure that you receive only the
announcements you request, per the recommended practices of Internet community. ASE makes every attempt to keep e-mail
addresses current and accurate.
myASE Portal
To establish a myASE account, you must be thirteen (13) years
of age or older, and provide your full legal name, date of birth, last four digits of your SSN, mailing address,
telephone number, and either a fax number or e-mail address. All myASE users, including company account managers, must
establish individual accounts. You must protect your user name and password so that you don’t compromise your
account’s security. Your ASE certification status (the tests you have passed) may be viewed by your employers. If you
do not wish for your employer to view your status, you must unselect the “Release my ASE status to others” preference
in your myASE account profile.
ASE reserves the right to review or suspend any myASE account for any reason,
including, but not limited to, suspicious or fraudulent activity or privacy concerns.
Your
Consent
By using this site, you consent to the collection and use of this information by ASE. If we
decide to change our privacy policy, we will post those changes on this page so that you are always aware of what
information we collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances we disclose it.

Please remember that when you use a link to go from any one of the ASE-owned sites to another
website, the ASE Privacy Policy no longer applies. Your browsing and interaction on any other website is subject to
the rules and policies of that site. We encourage you to read the rules and policies of the sites you visit to further
